Marion E. "Miney" (Nady) Davenport, 94, of Greenfield, MA, passed away on February 13, 2024 after a period of declining health.
Miney was born on February 28, 1929 to Leo L. Nady and Marion (McElhinny) Nady in Fairfield, IA. She was educated in the Fairfield, IA public schools and received her B.A. from Parsons College in Fairfield. After graduation, she was a school teacher in Guthrie Center, IA and Beverly, MA.
On September 7, 1959, Miney married Charles T. Davenport and had two children, Beth and Rob. When her children started school, she went to work part time at the Greenfield Public Library. After working at both the Greenfield Savings Bank and Franklin County Savings Bank, she retired and spent her time reading, traveling, doing crossword puzzles and counted cross stitch needlepoint, and playing cards and mahjong.
She was active in the community and served on the Board of Organized Work for many years as well as serving as a town meeting member, library trustee, and voter registrar. She was a member of the Second Congregational Church, of Greenfield for over 50 years.
Miney was predeceased by her parents, husband Charles, brothers Leo L. Nady and Robert M. Nady, and son Rob. She is survived by daughter Beth, sister Carrie Jane Talbott, grandsons Joseph C. Davenport and Isaac L. Davenport and their mother, Rachel Davenport, in addition to many nieces and nephews and their children.
Services will be held at Second Congregational Church, 16 Court Square, Greenfield, MA on March 2, 2024 at 2:00PM. Interment will be private in the South Cemetery, Leyden, MA at the convenience of family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the ASPCA or the Macular Degeneration Association, organizations Miney felt strongly about.
