Barbara Rodgers Obituary

Barbara Jean (Thompson) Rodgers, aged 76, died on February 18, 2024. Barbara, affectionately known as "Barb" to her friends and family, was born on June 19, 1947, in Montague and lived in Turners Falls, Allston, Billerica, and Bradford/Haverhill, Massachusetts. She upheld the values of her faith with dignity, advocating for a future she dreamed of for her grandchildren.

After graduating from Turners Falls High School in 1965, Barb worked at Riverside Press in Cambridge, MA, and then nearly 40 years at Lowell General Hospital (Saints Memorial, St. John's). However, Barb's vocational efforts were secondary to her role as a devoted mother. Barb was a gentle soul who found pleasure in the joyous observation of life's cultural expressions, from dance to music and the cinema. She took particular delight in experiences shared with, and stories of, her cherished granddaughters, Isabel and Tessa Kats-Rodgers.

Surviving Barb is her brother Ronald Thompson and his wife Cliffie, her sons Michael and Matthew Rodgers, Matthew's wife Lucy Kats, and her granddaughters, as well as her sister-in-law, Dr. P. Jane Baugh, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She joins in death her beloved parents, Mary (St. Germain) Thompson and Alfred Thompson, her sister Janet (Thompson) Mann, and her brother Richard Thompson.

Barb's family cordially invites relatives and friends to attend her Catholic Rite of Burial Service, which will be held on the 25th of February, 2024, at 2:00 PM. Guests are invited to pay their respects before the services at the McCarthy Funeral Homes located at 14 Prospect Street, Turners Falls, MA, at 1:00 PM.

In dedication to a cause close to Barbara's heart, donations are encouraged to the International Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia Foundation (IWMF) at the following web address: https://iwmf.com. Sending flowers is kindly discouraged.

Barb's memory will be cherished in the many lives she touched with her kindness, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her. May she rest in peace. The McCarthy Funeral Homes of Greenfield and Turners Falls, MA, have been entrusted with Barbara's care and services. Remembrances maybe directed to Barbara's Tribute Wall at www.mccarthyfuneralhomes.com
